Sacred Transitions believes that there is power in gathering in circle with each other to process, share, celebrate and BE! That's why we've pioneered Red Tent St. Petersburg. We gather each month near the new and full moon.
What is the purpose of Red Tent St. Pete? To Build Community, Celebrate Women, Embrace Life. Our events are open to any and all self-identified women. Together we create a safe space where no judgements are made of one another. This is a collective group, and it is what we all make of it. Our circle is not about religion, although those of any religious beliefs are welcome. There are no required or implied beliefs, and we express ourselves from what is true for ourselves rather than expecting others to share our truths. Our gatherings celebrate and honor our feminine nature, our cycles and passages, our struggles and accomplishments. We enjoy creating ritual for these purposes and to connect more intimately with Earth, Spirit, (the 'spark' that gives deeper meaning to our lives) Each Other and Ourselves.
Things to Know:
ALL WOMEN ARE WELCOME... young, middle aged, elders, cisgender, transgender...this is a group practicing inclusiveness among all women. You need not have a womb, a menstrual cycle (moon cycle), etc. There is beauty and wisdom to be shared through the experiences and stories of a diverse group of women.
NO LEADERS OR HIERARCHY- Red Tent St Pete is a community based group. There is a refreshing difference to this group as compared to many organizations we are used to in our society: we are all equal in status and equal share holders of this group and space we create. We may have rotating women guiding a circle or teaching a workshop, but there is no hierarchy. You are welcome and encouraged to be as involved as you desire. We make this what it is.
"Council Sharing"- One of the rituals we take part in during heart sharing circles is to pass around what we call a 'talking object'. Whomever is holding the object may speak/share. Everyone else is to be silent and reserve all comments unless asked by the one with the object. In this way we practice respect and DEEP LISTENING. Really listening. Not trying to think of what we will say when we take our turn, but truly, deeply, listening with our attention on the sharing one. When YOU have the talking object, feel free to share ANYTHING with us, be it a song, dance, story, a fear, a worry, a joy, etc. Also feel free to share simply your presence if that is what you desire. There is no pressure, give what you wish, take what you need.
Smoke Cleansing with herbs- We reverently use plants to help begin our circles together. Although this practice appears similar to "smudging" of the tradition of many indigenous native North American Nations, it is different. Here we burn herbs and waft the smoke over us to put us in the right mind and heart to be together in community. We use it to clear any feelings/thoughts/emotions that we would like to either leave outside of the circle or 'neutralize'. Plants used in this way offer us their gift of aroma and smoke that dissipates into the ethers to release what is no longer needed/wanted and carries our intentions in a special way.
ENTERING or LEAVING the circle once we have started: If you need to leave before we are finished circling, please quietly leave as to cause least amount of distraction to the group. If you find yourself arriving after the circle has begun, you may take a few deep breaths and/or cleanse with burning herbs and quietly enter the circle and sit among us. The main goal here is to keep the energy of the circle from dissipating or scattering.
CONFIDENTIALITY: what is shared and spoken in the circle remains in the circle. Things that are appropriate to share with others outside the circle include: wisdom and taught information, songs. Things that are to be kept confidential: ALL personal stories and personal information. It can be intimidating to share deeply. PLEASE respect the privacy of each individual here. This is meant to be a safe comfortable place to share.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR NEEDS: Please ask for what you need, and do not assume or depend on others to know what is best for you. Example: we decide to perform a certain ritual or do an activity that you do not wish to participate in. Do not assume we will all know your feelings. Please opt out if you want, that is your right and responsibility and you will not be judged for your choice!
This is not a religious group. We respect each others individual beliefs and we do not all practice or adhere to any one specific religion. Please be respectful of your sisters and do not judge, do not force your beliefs, do not condemn others beliefs.
WE currently gather at changing locations around the New Moon and Full Moon, to celebrate, honor, support, and share with one another and to deepen our connections to ourselves, our sisters, the Moon, the Earth, and the seasons/cycles. Please be in touch with any questions/concerns. We look forward to sharing time with you.
*Please see our calendar for the latest gathering information.
